Black & White Cinema

Throughout the years film has played a great part in my creative process. 

It not only influences my aesthetic, but also my mood and direction for what I have, and will create.

I love many films, but recently older, Black and White or even Silent movies have been a huge obsession!

I've been so excited to go and see the new film The Artist (2011), and finally watched it last week. 

After seeing this (and lovin' it) I though it would be nice to share with you just a few other Black and White films that have influenced me over the past weeks, months and years.

Reminiscing

Today I was sitting at my computer, not really doing anything productive (...to what I was doing about an hour ago), and remembered about some photos a wonderful friend had styled. 

Claire had asked to use my Fluffy Jacket which I created in 2010. It was initially designed as a menswear piece, aiming to be completely ornate and a 'little' over the top. 

I feel that its lavishly fluffy texture is just so exciting and it is wonderful to hear that others feel the same.

I love Claire's interpretation of this piece. I feel that she not only has a wonderful vision of her own, but an incredible ability to adapt to others. this shoot really captured serene yet slightly haunting mood of all the 

designers' works.

Country Road Styling Workshop

I've been BURSTING to share this exciting news with you for AGES!!! But was sworn to secrecy until the release day.
That day is now here!!!!!

On Friday the 21st of May Country Road proposed that 10 fashion design students from RMIT would collaborate with them, in styling 4 looks for the Spring Summer 2010 Collection.
Being one of these 10 students, I was lucky enough to be briefed (and given a sneak peak) of the range. After this introduction, we were left to practically play dress-ups for a few hours with the entire collection, and create approximately three looks each. This was a dream come true! Dressing up really has to be one of my favorite games to play! ….maybe even the only game which I do play!

After the end of this fantastic experience, the Country Road team selected only four looks from the entire day. These four looks have been photographed by the Fashion Photographer Daniel Jackson in New York, and are also included in the current Country Road Catalog.
I am Thrilled that myself along with my other friends (and great students) were selected not only for this wonderful experience, but also the opportunity to work with Country Road. Myself along with the other three finalists are currently in the Spring Summer Catalog for 2010.

Adventurous Dreaming

The other week, I have the most adventurous dream. It was so exciting! Me and a group of friends had to escape this jungle infested room through swinging vines, and plank walking all while the theme song for Indiana Jones was playing! So that morning I woke up inspired! I was going to dress in the style of an adventurer! A Professor by day.... Adverturous Archiologist by night!
hahah! I had Lots of fun!

An Innate Design Destiny

Flipping through the paper this morning I was completely blown away with the incredible magnificence of one of Paloma Picasso's necklaces! It was so beautiful, one can only dream and lust after a piece as magical as this. The chunky, raw and natural state of the stones really emphasized the essence of modern jewellery; to feel it's presence on you, and to radiate all women's beautiful qualities of course!!!!!!




The daughter of the infamous artist Pablo Picasso has been involved in the fashion, design and jewellery industry for many years now as a style icon and muse. Inspiring couturiers like Karl Lagerfeld, YSL, Marc Jacobs and Stuart Vevers at Loewe, she is now crafting her own works, with her collaborative Collection for Tiffany&Co. She believes that "Jewellery must make you look good", "But the primary reason is to feel good; it must feel good on your body." (The Age, GoodWeekend Magazine, 06.02.2010) And I couldn't agree more!

I got so excited by her strong femininity and alluring style that I went and had a look at her new collection. So here are my favorite pieces and images of Ms Picacco!

Turban Delights

I was so excited when I flipped through the paper this morning, it was sunny, there was an article on Marianne Faithful about her romance with Mick Jagger, a recipe of Pineapples rolled in coconut + mangos and TURBANS!!!
.......I Absolutely LOVE turbans, head scarfs, bowes and any other hair accessories or ornaments that you could possibly think of!

This photoshoot was part of the Sunday Age Magazine "Sunday Life". Probably due to the fact that retro bikinis and turbans were involved; I became so overly excited that I just had to wear one today too!
So I know this sounds very indulgent, but what's a Sunday meant to be if you cant indulge in something? So I hope you enjoy my complete obsession with turbans and this photoshoot!

The Neodisco Movement

After looking at all those incredibly infectious disco photos by Ron Galella, I realized how much they really have influenced my dress sense when I go out. While obviously not every single time, it sure it a few times!!!
so guys, here are some of my personal favorites!

What is most special about each outfit, is the way it makes me feel! As the outfit slowly evolves, I guess a sense of magic and the desire to be one of these disco beauties washes over me! My absolute favorite part of each outfit is the jewelry. Weather it's five necklaces worn all together, or just one and a few rings, I think that the idea of adorning yourself it quite special, it changes the way your move, as the jewelry also moves in it's own way! And most of all.... It makes you feel Sparkly!!
